First Impressions

I chose the 20-30mmHg version of the YoU compression socks because this seems to be the most common option that nurses choose for everyday wear (and the same level of compression as the previously reviewed FIGS 100% Awesome Compression Socks). As of today, YoU is still offering a FREE pair of compression socks on their website. This is a totally free offer, no shipping or taxes, and is a great way to try out their socks before investing in several pairs. I thought it was too good to be true until they showed up at my house last week. At first look, they seem very similar to the FIGS compression socks, and have a very nice, soft, high-quality feel to them.

Comfort

Putting the YoU compression socks is a pleasant experience and you can immediately feel the solid level of compression as well as the familiar cooling effect that compression socks will give you. The sock is made of 90% REPREVE® nylon, 10% spandex, which provides 3 Zones of Compression which increase circulation and leg energy. One of my favorite features of these socks is the seamless toe closure. This feature means that you won’t feel any rubbing or chafing around your toes. The socks extend up to the top of my calves, but not so far as to cause bunching or chafing at the knee. Since I just received them, I’ll have to update this article once I get a few shifts under my belt with them, but I think they will prove to be as comfortable as they are now at the end of a 12-hour shift.

Options

One thing I was impressed about YoU Compression Wear is how many different options they have when it comes to compression socks for nurses. Companies like FIGS typically only offer socks of one grade of compression (20-30mmHg). Being a more specialized company that focuses only on compression socks, YoU offers several different levels of compression, including 15-20mmHG, 20-30mmHg (including a cushioned option), 30-40mmHg, and open toe knee-high socks. While the color options are fairly similar to other brands, the sheer amount of customization that YoU offers is a welcomed change of pace in the compression sock world.

Final Thoughts

As more and more companies start offering their own compression socks, smaller and more specialized companies like YoU offer something that those companies can’t: a personalized and scientific approach to sockwear. All nurses will be able to find a color and compression grade of socks that will work for them from YoU, and will feel good knowing they are supporting local jobs and a company with a homegrown mentality.
