Lymmax Fanny Pack: a way for nurses to carry everything they need

Some nurses like to carry everything they need for a shift in a fanny pack. While some companies aim to provide a nursing specific fanny pack, Lymmax has inadvertently produced an extremely affordable, high-quality fanny pack that is perfect for nurses.

When I first saw a nurse wearing a fanny pack at work, I have to admit that I laughed (to myself) at the idea of rocking a fanny pack at work. But after working as a new grad for a few months on a busy med-surg floor, I quickly realized that my hospital issued scrubs, with one singular pocket, did not provide nearly enough space for all of the stuff I wanted to have with me during my shifts. That’s when I started my search for a good looking fanny pack for nurses.

First Impressions

I found this fanny pack by searching on amazon. I had come across some older designs that were made with nurses specifically in mind, but I really did not like the look of them. Most are more of an “apron” style sort of wraps around your leg. This is the look I was wanting to avoid. I quickly realized that there weren’t any nursing specific models that I was going to like. But I remembered seeing a friend’s running belt, and thought that this type of fanny pack might work for nurses.

I came across the Lymmax pack and was immediately hooked. It wasn’t big and bulky like the nursing-specific fanny packs, but it was also big enough that it looked like it could hold what I needed it to (pens, pencils, marker, highlighter, flushes, alcohol pads, etc. I ordered the blue version and received it a couple days later (thanks, Amazon Prime!).

Construction

The Lymmax fanny pack is made of a soft, durable, and most importantly WATER-PROOF polyester fabric. The waist strap is nice and solid, almost like a seat belt material, and the clip is a nice and sturdy clip. Each zipper has a solid rubber piece that makes it easy to grab and the zippers never get stuck. One of my favorite features is the mesh fabric that makes up the backside of the fanny pack, which allows a cooling/ventilatory effect. This feature makes sure that the pack doesn’t make me get hot or sweaty while I’m wearing it.

Storage Space

The Lymmax fanny pack contains 4 different pockets to store your gear in, 2 smaller pockets on the front of the pack (one with velcro closure, one with a zipper), and 2 larger pockets with zipper closures, one slightly larger main pocket (where I keep most of my stuff) and one pocket along the back of the pack (the mesh section that sits against your body. In my experience, the large pocket is big enough to fit several pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, as well as my reflex hammer, hemostats, and a couple saline flushes. With this amount of “stuff” in the main pocket, the pack still sits nice and lightly on my hip and doesn’t sag down at all, as long as the adjustable belt is tightened correctly. I don’t use the other pockets as much, but they definitely provide extra space for smaller items like chapstick or a medication vial, if you like to carry that kind of stuff with you.

Conclusion

The Lymmax fanny pack has been one of the most surprising purchases in my time buying nurse gear due to it’s extremely affordable price combined with it’s high level of usefulness. The price is so good that I would rather replace this pack a few times than buy a much more expensive fanny pack with essentially the same features. Try it out and let us know what you think!
